My name is Wren Owens, and I've been a professional alpaca breeder, farmer, marketer and broker for eight years now (in 2012). My earlier career for over 25 years was as an artist in film and television, and sculpting and writing, as well. The artist part of me has not gone away, but my lifestyle has shifted to one including alpacas full time, and I have loved every minute of it. You just might, too!
My clients are located all across the United States, and they raise Huacayas (the fluffy kind of alpacas), Suris (the "dreadlocked" looking alpacas) and some even raise both! Many are also fiber artists, and some have outside careers and have the alpacas as a part-time enjoyment. What we all have in common is a love for these wonderful animals, and a knowledge of business that has kept our farms alive and well, even in the recession.
